Hitting the design spots in the Big Apple with HTC

A few weeks back the HTC team jetted off to New York for the annual ICFF – otherwise known as the International Contemporary Furniture Fair to take a group of media on a tour that would give them exclusive insights into the Big Apple’s ‘must see’ design hotpots.  As the second city on the recently launched Wallpaper* HTC Global Design Tours app, the New York tour was designed to bring both the app and HTC One to life.

With a group of journalists attending from both sides of the pond, and representing titles such as Vogue and Design & Trend, we visited six iconic locations featured within the app and were met in turn by personalities – founders, designers and trendsetters – who shared their design gems of wisdom with the group.

Stops on the tour were handpicked to give the group an immersive and exciting design experience.  We got snap happy at the beautifully designed Four Freedoms Park, a stunning architectural memorial to Franklin D. Roosevelt, and admired the both stunning and unique home ware collections at David Alhadeff’s Future Perfect store.

We were also lucky enough to visit the live sex vidios ‘must-see’ ICFF design pop ups in town including the Giulio Cappellini exhibition at Wanted Design where we were greeted by the inspirational Mr Cappellini himself, and the ‘Trophy’ exhibition at the American Design Club – champion of young design talents – where founder Kiel Mead gave us an exclusive talk of his vision and design philosophy.

No visit to the Big Apple would be complete without cocktails so we rounded off the tour by sipping lots of them at app recommended joint The Leadbelly (whilst polishing off delicious oysters too of course), where battered old suitcases and piles of vintage vinyl act as a welcome design distraction.

The android app gives users a completely new way to explore the design culture of some of the world’s most important design cities.  Curated by international and influential designers, it has been specially optimised for the new sleek HTC One, the world’s first full zero-gap aluminium unibody smartphone. A music track for each suggested location has been chosen to allow for a fully immersive design experience which showcases the HTC One’s high quality music feature BoomSound. You can download the app here!
